Why do we need to withhold aid to Israel? Today, the building by Israelis in East Jerusalem continues, the building of a colossal housing project so big it might well take over the area as a city of its own. It is in blatant violation of International Law. It is a serious impediment to the search for peace. The problem is that the United States shares in the guilt because the U.S. sends $3 billion every year in military and economic aid. This amount does not include U.S. loan guarantees and private donations (which are tax deductable) which add to a total of about $10 billion a year. Thats a substantial part of Israel's economy. Withholding U.S. aid would make the Jewish state stop its colonization of the occupied territories, and therefore, lead to a chance for peace. Said another way, as we continue to aid Israel, we are actually helping to destroy any chances of peace there. What is presently happening is not in the best interests of us, the citizens of the U.S. Lets get politicians into office who support ending aid to Israel.
We should halt U.S. Support for Israel. Should the United States continue to support Israel when Israel is clearly in the wrong? I cannot believe that what is happening is in the best interest of the U.S., and I think it is more likely that power wielding politicians are receiving huge financial contributions from Israeli sources. Financial and biased support for Israel should be terminated. In my judgement the following should happen: 1) The US should join other countries in the UN in condemning Israel for making allowing recent settlements, and all present controversial settlements should be removed. The concensus of the countries in the UN should act with an iron hand with threat of force if necessary to enforce their decisions. 2) Financial aid for Israel by the US should be terminated, and any future unilateral aid should be given fairly to all parties, and only for economic development. Politicians who refuse to become proactive in supporting something similar to No. 1 and No. 2 above need to be replaced with ones who will.
Violations of International Law International law does not recognize Israeli authority over East Jerusalem, It is considered occupied territory by the world community. The Charter of the United Nations specifically outlaws the acquisition of territory by force. The 1949 Fourth Geneva Convertion Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in time of War prohibits an occupying power from transferring part of its own population to the territory it occupies.
